Abstract
The effects of the population density on growth and various physiological values in Sprague-Dawley rats were investigated. A most accelerated growth were seen with I rat/cage in males and 3 rats per cage in females. Food consumption was decreased in high population density. The weights of the liver, kidney and thyroid were decreased in male rats with high population density. The values of mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, glutamic-pyruvic transaminase, blood urea nitrogen, albumin/globulin ratio and Inorganic phosphate were different between different population groups although those didn¢¥t vary directly or inversely as population density. No correlation was observed between population density and clinical signs, water consumption, gross necropsy findings and urinalysis.
